Window and Door Dismantling Platform

Studying the feasibility of recycling windows and doors

This project is part of a drive to deploy a full-scale dismantling platform for doors and windows (D&W) in Quebec, enabling local players to be mobilized along the value chain. The aim is to validate the technical and economic feasibility of such a circularization process for products, components and materials from D&W removed from end-of-life buildings, in order to minimize the quantities of material sent to landfill. The approach is based on the development of potential scenarios based on feedback from the literature, and the knowledge of partners in different locations.

Monitoring the deployment and operation of the various platforms will enable us to document the various implementation processes, carry out a performance analysis of the dismantling stages, and disseminate the knowledge and experience acquired to other territories and sectors.

The project is led by Synergie Économique Laurentides and CERIEC. The SADC des Laurentides is supporting the project through its Virage Vert program.

Project objectives

  • Characterize possible scenarios and identify the parameters of a D&W dismantling chain for each study area.
  • Document the deployment stages of the various platforms and assess their operational performance.
  • Carry out a critical review of the various case studies and disseminate the lessons learned to the players involved.

The project runs from February 2022 to December 2023.
